Planning a global roll out with complete end user adoption in mind is never simple. This is particularly true when your organization has over 60,000 end users worldwide. In a recent webcast, our Senior Training Consultants discussed how they met this challenge and the strategic decisions made to drive end user adoption.

The Challenge
Oracle R12 needed to be rolled out in 58 different countries
More than 35,000 geographically dispersed end users needed to be trained
Translation needed to accommodate 12 languages

The Approach

Single Wave or Multi Wave
When deciding between a single or multi-wave roll out, logistics are a key factor. Ensuring enough training staff on hand in every location requires a large investment in both staff & infrastructure. By modulating the roll out into groups, training costs decrease & regional focus increases, benefiting both ROI & the audience.

To translate or not to translate
Translating training material can greatly affect how much the end users engage & retain, however this is not with out cost. With translation comes increased investment in content development, hosting & maintenance. For this project, the decision was made to do full translations in some regions, and partial translations where English was commonly spoken. In the latter regions, we recommend having translated printed materials available, a local bilingual SME & that trainers be cognizant about use of colloquialisms when instructing.

Instructor lead, TtT or Web Based
When deciding the means of training delivery, Training Managers have to make a cost-value evaluation; to maximize training impact with out maximizing the budget, our team took a blended approach. By engaging an instructor team in conjunction with designated regional upgrade SMEs, access to learning support is never far away. Coupling this with a full library of self guided eLearning that provided context sensitive support, the needs of nearly all adult learning style can be met.

The Result
Through use of a multi wave roll out, a full library of multilingual training material was developed, to be delivered in conjunction with ILT, for the full global audience.

With a selection of SMEs trained using all training methods (ILT, Web based and/or Hands on) we were able to establish a group or core experts in every region.

This resulted in a successful R12 go live in 33 countries, in 12 languages, with another 25 countries to go!

The RIGHT Tools

  • Web based training has been a popular training delivery strategy for global companies, but with so many options on the market, it’s important to choose one that can accommodate multiple adult learning styles.
  • Instructor led training is one of the most impactful forms of training, however it is also the most costly. To maximize ROI, managers should select a training tool that can create both ILT and self-guided materials in one authoring session.

Multi-functional training tool sets can add tremendous value and significantly decrease the amount of time and cost in a global training initiative.
